Camden Archives & Museum

The Camden Archives and Museum is funded by the City of Camden and is a department of the City.  It is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making accessible items of importance to the history of the area.  The artifacts in the museum represent a diverse collection of items relating to cultural heritage.  The Camden Archives and Museum is recognized throughout South Carolina as having an excellent library for genealogical research.  The South Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution and the South Carolina Society Colonial Dame XVII Century Libraries are housed in the building.  Staff is available to assist visitors.

The Archives and Museum is housed in the Carnegie Library built in 1915.  The building is a fine example of Greek revival architecture.

View exhibits of local and regional history including Camden's restored original town clock, circa 1825.  Equipped with a large and diverse collection of genealogical and historical research materials, the Archives provide a vital link to the heritage and history of Camden and Kershaw County.  Group presentations available with advance arrangements.  Staff available for research assistance.  Open Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except holiday weekends).  During the months of March, April, and May 2010 they will also be open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  They are located at 1314 Broad Street/US Highway 521, Camden and can be reached at (803) 425-6050.
